Home for Abused Women and Children

La Roca Home Imagine that you’re a young woman, mother to five children. Your husband or boyfriend works to support the family and you stay at home to care for the children. Night after night, he comes home and for one reason or another becomes violent with you and your children. You have pleaded with him to change, sometimes he even promises he will, but again and again the same destructive cycle takes place. You’re afraid to leave because he’s threatened to take your life if you tried. Even if you did get away you worry because you’d have no way to care for your children. How will you feed them? How will you pay for their education? Where will you sleep? How will you ever survive? But one night things get so bad, you just can’t take it anymore. You’ve determined to leave. While he’s away at work, you grab the few belongings that you can, take your children by the hand and you run. You’re not sure where you’re going, but you know you have to leave. You’re scared, but yet you have hope. Hope for something better. Hope for a life free from physical and emotional abuse, free from insults, free from manipulation. Hope for a life where your children grow up healthy, laughing, being loved, and receiving a good education. You even entertain the thought of learning a new skill so you could get a job. You want to be happy and healthy and supporting yourself and your family. You know you can do it; you just need some help to get there.

This is the story of a typical woman or child that comes to La Roca looking for help. The details may vary slightly, but unfortunately it’s always the same story.

La Roca is there to support these families and to give them the new start they need. We strive to be the place that encourages them to get strong and healthy. We give them the tools that they need in order to realize all those hopes and dreams that they have for themselves and their children.
