Clinic
Proper health care is one of the most urgent needs of the poor. Without it, a successful and
fulfilling lifestyle is nearly impossible to achieve. Most families that we serve live in sub-standard conditions – dirt floors that stay wet throughout the rainy season, cold drafty rooms during the winter and overheated, stuffy rooms in the summer. These conditions result in high levels of sickness and injury.
The most common serious illnesses in Mexico are upper-respiratory infections and intestinal infections due to mal-nutrition and poor drinking water. Even though these are illnesses that can often be easily treated with antibiotics and medications, if left untreated, these illnesses can lead to death.
To combat this, the La Roca clinic provides the following types of health care free of charge:
Preventative – providing basic medical care such as routine exams and physicals, pap-smears, well baby check-ups, and education about nutrition, birth control and hygiene.
Treatment – ensuring that people receive a proper diagnosis and treatment for illnesses before they become life-threatening.
Medication – free medication is given to all in need after a diagnosis has been made to ensure that they return to a good quality of health.
Pre/Post Natal Care and Education – providing women with the proper medical care and education during their pregnancy and after the birth of their child.
Vaccinations – yearly vaccination days are held to protect children from harmful diseases.
Diabetes Education and Check-Ups – With an ever increasing population of diabetics throughout Mexico, we offer free blood-sugar screenings and education on how to prevent the onset of diabetes.
Our clinic is staffed by Dr. Amarillas three days a week, 4 hours each day. On average she sees 20 patients per working day.
